Our Team

For over thirty years, Dr. Randall Melchert has practiced optometry in the Greater Milwaukee area. Dr. Melchert’s practice specializes in conducting complete comprehensive eye exams that detect and help our patients co-manage issues such as glaucoma, cataracts, and other eye diseases with state-of-the-art technology and compassionate care. Melchert Eye Care was the 4th practice in Wisconsin to have the Optos Optomap technology. Foreign bodies are removed and pink eye, as well as dry eye is treated at the Melchert Eye Care clinic.

Dr. Melchert has been influential in research for new optical products including tinted contact lenses, oxygen permeable lenses, and lenses to correct color vision problems.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association, as well as a past president of the Kettle Moraine Optometric Society. He has also served as a board member of Prevent Blindness-Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Optometric Association. A native of Seymour, Wisconsin, Dr. Melchert completed his pre-professional training at Ripon College, and at the Madison, Oshkosh, and Fox Valley campuses of the University of Wisconsin.

In 1978, he graduated from Illinois College of Optometry where he served as Class Treasurer and received the Eugene W. Strawn Award for Leadership and Service.

In his off hours, Dr. Melchert enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. He volunteers at Brookside Baptist Church, in addition to serving as chairman of the Board of Deacons. Dr. Melchert also serves as president of VCY America, a radio and television network, carried in Milwaukee on TV 30 and 107.7 FM.  In his free time he is also helping to restore the Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse.

Steven Oleson is an experienced optician at Melchert Eye Care who has been serving alongside Dr. Melchert for many years. Before entering the optical field, Steven worked in the diamond industry, where he developed a strong appreciation for craftsmanship, precision, and luxury products.

Today, he brings that same expertise and attention to detail into helping patients find high-quality eyewear that fits both their vision needs and personal style. Outside the office, Steven enjoys traveling, cycling, and spending time with his family.
